Review: The Bumbo toilet seat/ trainer

I'm sure most of the mothers have heard about the well known Bumbo floor seat. Today I'm not going to talk about the Bumbo seat but the Bumbo toilet seat/ trainer.

Just like the Bumbo floor seat, the Bumbo toilet seat is moulded into a shape which help babies who cannot sit unassisted or stable yet to be able to sit up. It is made with flexible polyurethane foam which is soft that made it very comfortable to sit on.

The Bumbo toilet seat is quite difficult to be found in Malaysia but I managed to find it in an online baby store. Couldn't remember how old was little one when I bought it but he couldn't sit unassisted yet and I was eager to start him on toilet training haha.

To be honest, I really didn't like it at first because I found it difficult to keep little one's penis in the hole. It feels like the hole is too small and everytime he sits on it it feels like his penis was being squished and I was so afraid of any mishaps. I searched online and found out that I was not the only one who is facing this problem and was convinced that this product is better to be used by baby girls based on the ratings and reviews. It was pretty disappointing as the toilet seat wasn't cheap but oh well, I can keep it for my future daughter.

But later on when little one has learnt to sit without support (I think he was about 7 months old), I gave the toilet seat another try. Surprisingly, the problem that I was facing is no longer a problem anymore! As little one is able to sit up straight, it fits perfectly without his penis being squished. The best thing is, little one feels comfortable sitting on it, I can see that from his expressions that he feels safe and happy in it. Unlike the normal toilet seat, little one is very well supported when he's sitting in the bumbo toilet seat and I do not need to hold him, but of course, never leave your baby unattended on the toilet seat. He begins to do his poo poo in the toilet bowl not long after though once in a while he still does it in his diaper in urgent cases. Now little one is 13 months old and I have started to let him use the toilet seat during pee time as well and he's doing really well as in he knows what he is suppose to do when I put him on the toilet seat.

Another thing which I like about the Bumbo toilet seat is 'less mess'. Unlike the conventional toilet seat (I've tried Baby Bjorn and other local brands), each and everytime after little one pees using them, the pee will stain the front part of the toilet seat (for Baby Bjorn) or even spray out onto the floor (for the local brands) if I don't press his penis down cause you know the penis erects a little bit when baby boys pees. But when it comes to the Bumbo toilet seat, I don't know why, maybe it's the way it is moulded that put babies into the correct position or the 'saddle horn' in front, it seldom gets stained. I wash it as a routine most of the time and even if it got stained, its super easy to be cleaned.

I believe that a toilet seat is very important when it comes to toilet training because it is important that your baby feels secure and comfortable using the toilet bowl before they will do their pee pee and poo poo there and this is what the Bumbo toilet seat offers: sense of security and comfort! But based on my personal experience, this toilet seat is not suitable for baby boys that cannot sit without support. I don't know what is the age limit for this toilet seat but my nephew who is already 3 can still fit into it.

To conclude this post, I love my Bumbo toilet seat and I know my little one loves it too!

Anyways, I was planning to do a review on my Beaba Babycook but I lost the nut on the blender. I've ordered the part from the shop and will do a review on it as soon as it arrives. Thanks for reading. Please come back for more reviews!

Take care xx
